Eden Hazard was once the most chased player in the world as the Premier League's top sides queued up to sign the Belgian. Sir Alex Ferguson had one tactic to try and sign him, before ultimately failing.

In the summer of 2012 Eden Hazard was a wanted man. After impressing with Lille in Ligue 1 the best sides all wanted him and Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea were all at the front of the line.

The Belgian forward teased everyone about where he may end up and there were weekly rumours changing the destination of his next club. City pipped United to the Premier League title whilst Chelsea beat Bayern Munich to become champions of Europe.

That win for the Blues was enough to convince Hazard that Stamford Bridge was the right location:

That decision wouldn't have come easy for Hazard though as he had a conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson who tried to convince him to instead move to Old Trafford.

In order to do that Sir Alex, according to ESPN, had used the example of United's development of Cristiano Ronaldo as the reason that Hazard should go there and that no one could shine a light near the Red Devil's track record of improving young players.

The lure of playing for the Champions League winners along with being in London and the fact that, reportedly, only Chelsea would pay his wages led to Hazard moving to west London.

It's not exactly proved a bad choice for the 27 year old who has become one of the best players in the world, even without Fergie, and has won two Premier League titles.

Things didn't go too badly for United and their manager that summer anyway as they best City to the signing of Robin van Persie.

The next season United won the title back with RvP the difference between them and City before the legendary boss decided to retire.

Hazard would have then played under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, so he definitely made the right choice.
