Gianluigi Buffon left Juventus last year to transfer to PSG but the former world's most expensive goalkeeper could soon return to the Serie A champions, unless he signs a new contract in Paris.

Just over a year ago it was expected that Gianluigi Buffon was going to retire from football. The goalkeeper had turned 40 last January and his contract with Juventus was coming to an end, with the Old Lady not renewing his deal.

He wasn't expected to make a move elsewhere but in the end he surprised everyone by signing for PSG, primarily to give winning the Champions League one last go.

The legendary Italian has spent much of the season as back up to Alphonse Areola, although he has still started 14 Ligue 1 games, and has helped the Parisians win another Ligue 1 title.

Buffon's original deal was for one year but it was thought that he would extend the deal, with some reports even saying he'd get two more years, but his time in the French capital may soon be over.

According to SportMediaset, via Football Italia, Buffon could return to Juventus as a director if his time at PSG isn't extended by the club or player.

The report says that his agent, Silvano Martina, will be in France to begin talks over whether the club want to extend his stay at the beginning of next week.

Even if the club do want to keep him there's no guarantee that Buffon will choose to stay and may see retirement as a better option.

Speaking to PSG's official website the goalkeeper said he had no regrets about moving from Turin to Paris, saying, "I spent nine months in a wonderful city, was welcomed warmly and shown a lot of affection. I am very happy to have made the choice to come to Paris.

"I wanted to experience a new football environment and a new city in my life too and I must admit, I have fulfilled those needs. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and learn new things. I learned French and I know in future all of this experience will help me."

PSG weren't able to help Buffon win the Champions League this season, after missing out to Manchester United in dramatic circumstances, but the blow will have been softened for Buffon that Juve didn't win either.

Should Buffon stay in France or return to Italy?
