Transfer deadline day has a lot of excitement for fans, especially when their club actually signs someone they need, but do players get excited by new signings. Well according to Frank Lampard it only happened once.

During the transfer window, and especially on the day when everyone wears yellow ties, there's a lot of instability for footballers. They don't know if they'll be sold, when or who to and things can change in the blink of an eye.

Whilst the rest of us can sit back, relax and wait for an announcement, or at least tweet 'ANNOUNCE x' in response to every social media interaction we see, footballers have no idea who their new teammates could be.

Check out what Chelsea would have looked like without their money:

During Frank Lampard's time at Chelsea the club went into the Roman Abramovich era and made a lot of signings that would have got their fans extremely excited and helped them lift numerous trophies.

However according to the Blues' leading scorer of all time only one of those men got him really excited by his arrival and looking back with hindsight it really shouldn't have. Talking to BT Sport he revealed it was Fernando Torres, saying:

"When Torres came, we were all very excited for that. That was the first time, the only time I can remember, as a Chelsea fan, I was excited [by a signing], thinking the difference he could make to our team."

Torres was a January transfer deadline move. He went from Liverpool to Stamford Bridge on January 31st 2011 after handing in a transfer request for a then British record fee of £50 million.

He went on to win the FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League with Chelsea, even scoring an important goal in the semi-final on the way to that victory, but he never reached his full potential at Chelsea.

Torres' confidence and form disappeared and he was beset by injuries at the Atletico Madrid striker scored just 45 goals in 172 appearances for the Blues, just 20 in the Premier League. At Anfield he'd scored 81 times in 142 appearances in all competitions.
