Jurgen Klopp Admits He Could Lose A Few Liverpool Players In January

The German will surely be hoping to boost his defensive options in the winter window but he could lose a few players first.

There's no secret that Barcelona are likely going to try and sign Philippe Coutinho after an unsuccessful pursuit of him in the summer. However Jurgen Klopp is wary that he could lose several players in the next transfer window.

There's not been many more long and drawn out failed transfer sagas than the one of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona from last summer, I couldn't have written about it more often if I tried.

At this point all neutrals will be hoping the deal gets done on the 3rd of January so we can get it out of the way instead of dragging it out any longer, possibly even into next summer if it's not done.

In the meantime Liverpool sit in fifth in the Premier League and are battling to finish in the top four come the end of the season. Jurgen Klopp's side could do with a boost in the January transfer window to help.

Reds' fans might have been hoping for good transfer news but instead the Liverpool boss has delivered some bad news by admitting some players could leave. When asked about departures he said:

"I cannot give an answer for that now. A lot of things could happen. Maybe one or two players will tell me they want to make a move and go somewhere else. If that happens then we would have to consider that and make our decisions.

"As long as we have the opportunity to do something (sign someone) then we should think about it."

Of course it was reported that Coutinho asked to leave Anfield in the summer but the club didn't want to sell. Whilst the admission doesn't mean he will be sold for sure it does suggest that Liverpool would consider it.

It's unlikely that any of the defenders will be in danger of losing their place in Liverpool's squad as Klopp isn't exactly flush with brilliant options at the back but he is likely to want to strengthen.

He could go back in for Southampton's Virgil van Dijk, who seemed to be their only target in the summer, or he might have identified another player who he wants.

Upfront Daniel Sturridge seems to have fallen behind Dominic Solanke in the pecking order and he could move on to find regular football in hope of getting into England's World Cup squad.
