Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic is set to pen to paper on a new contract at the San Siro, and it will make it even more difficult for Manchester United, or any other club, to sign him up.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with the Croatian throughout the summer, with Jose Mourinho keen on adding the left-sided player to the ranks to give an extra bit of service for record signing Romelu Lukaku.

But despite United's strong interest in the former Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund man, the two clubs were far apart in terms of what they valued the player and a fee could not be agreed.

Widespread reports claimed Inter were holding out for £48.5 million for Perisic, a price United did not want to pay. He was touted to be United's fourth signing of the summer in a window where they bought Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic, as well as announcing that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will return to the club for a second spell once his recovery from an ACL injury is fully complete.

Yet a move for Perisic never materialised and the latest news would suggest that United will have added difficulty trying to sign him if they decide to go back in for him.

That's because according to Italian outlet Tuttosport, the 28-year old's proposed new Nerazzurri contract is to include a massive €70 million (£64 million) which will likely deter United in their pursuit of Perisic.

The move to add a whopping release clause to Perisic's new deal is being called an 'anti-Man United' clause as a result of United's courting of Inter's No.44 over the summer window.

While Perisic, who has a sensational cross in his locker, would fit in well at United and bring a different dimension to the attack, paying £64 million for a man who turns 29 in February, when Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are already perfectly fine options on the left flank, might not be in United's best interests.
