Iago Aspas has come a very long way since he was a Liverpool player and the forward claimed he could have gone even further by signing for either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid this summer.

Say Iago Aspas and most football fans in the Premier League and there's only one thing they'll remember his time in England for, his infamous corner kick in the game against Chelsea.

Of course the most famous incident in the 2014 clash between Chelsea and Liverpool at the end of the season is best remembered for Steven Gerrard's slip that is often cited as the moment that the Reds threw away the Premier League title.

However Aspas' corner is just as iconic and possibly just as culpable for the loss. Late in the game Liverpool had a corner and Aspas' terrible effort was easily cleared. With Brendan Rodgers' side pushing for an equaliser the Blues went on the counter, leading to their second goal and confirming their three points.

Aspas eventually moved back to Celta Vigo in 2015 and he's been building his career back up since then, even earning national team recognition.

Speaking to Radio Marca he was asked about a potential transfer away in the past summer and revealed that both Real and Atletico Madrid were interested, saying:

"I personally did not call another team. It is true that several got in touch with my brother and my agent.

"I have always been honest; anyone interested had to come to an agreement with Celta first and then we would see if it interested me later.

"There were important teams, interest from Real Madrid and Atletico came out in the press and I imagine it was true.

"The club did not say anything to me. I suppose there were talks and nothing went any further."

The 31 year old signed a new deal in the summer and it looks like he won't be leaving Celta anytime soon, adding, "I have always seen myself at Celta for as many years as possible.

"That's why I signed a contract extension.

"I hope to speak with the club in the future and continue as many years as possible."

It's probably best for Liverpool fans' health that he didn't end up at Real Madrid!
