Remember Maicon? The buccaneering right-back who was at the peak of his powers for Inter Milan winning the Champions League?

Well, he's back!

The Brazilian was last seen in action over in Italy's Serie A with AS Roma. But he was released after spending three years at the Stadio Olimpico.

And it appeared he was heading for retirement considering he was out of action for a whole season.

But Maicon is refusing to call time on his illustrious playing career as he intends to carry on.

The 35-year-old will be returning home for the first time since 2005 as he's officially joined Brazilian outfit Avai who unveiled him as their newest signing.

Avai are fresh off promotion to Brazil's top flight and have secured the services of an experienced campaigner ahead of the new season.

Not only have they beat clubs across Brazil and Europe to his signature, but Avai have snapped him up for a dirt cheap price.

It's being reported that he's on a £14,000-a-week contract. Sure, he's old and seen better days but not bad for a 4 x Serie A and Champions League winner.

Maicon started his career in Brazil with Cruzeiro, enjoying four seasons before making the switch to Europe.

After attracting interest, AS Monaco proceeded to sign him for a measly £2.1 million. Two seasons in Ligue 1 prompted Inter Milan to draft him in.

And it's at the iconic San Siro where he made his name, becoming arguably the best right-back in the world at one stage.

Maicon was a prolific starter for Inter, producing heroics from the right-flank winning the Scudetto an impressive four times, not to mention claiming the Champions League in 2010 under Jose Mourinho.

He then joined Manchester City before leaving after one season returning to the Serie A with AS Roma.

13-years-away from Brazilian football, Maicon heads back.
