Real Madrid are still working out their post Cristiano Ronaldo world and to the surprise of everyone they didn't really replace him in the summer. Now Florentino Perez has revealed something about the transfer.

Florentino Perez loves a shiny thing. The Real Madrid president is well known for his building of a team of 'Galacticos' not once but twice as he went about buying the highest profile, best, and most expensive players around.

That means the likes of David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo and Ronaldo moving to the Bernabeu the first time and latterly the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos.

In the summer Perez managed to lose his two biggest names of Zidane and Ronaldo. Whilst the manager was replaced by Julen Lopetegui the forward was never really replaced.

Ronaldo's departure to Juventus was expected to be followed by a move for any of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe or Eden Hazard but instead they didn't sign any big names.

Speaking ahead of the club's ordinary and extraordinary general meeting
Read more at Perez revealed that he never wanted to sell the Portugal forward but they couldn't expect to get his transfer release clause, saying:

"The release clauses are not there to be paid. If there has to be sale, it is negotiated.

"We did not want to sell him, but he wanted to go for personal reasons and we understood that, for all the good things he had done, we had to open the door for him.

"We got the highest value we could."

It's quite surprising to hear Perez admit that Los Blancos didn't want to sell their former star man.

It might sound obvious that he wouldn't want to sell the five time Ballon d'Or winner but doing so shows them to be vulnerable to losing their best players, something you wouldn't imagine from Real.

Life in Italy hasn't been perfect at the start for Ronaldo. It took him a few games to score a goal and his Champions League debut for the Old Lady ended in a red card.

There's no doubt at some point Perez will be back in for a new Galactico soon enough, shiny things don't evade him for very long.
