Everton reportedly asked Barcelona about the availability of two players this January.

Sam Allardyce clearly feels the need to strengthen his side and has already added Turkish striker Cenk Tosun to the ranks for a fee of £27 million but there's also talk that they've shown interest in two Blaugrana players.

In the 'Confidencial' section of the Sport newspaper, brought to our attention by Sport Witness, they say the Toffees enquired about Barca pair Paco Alcacer and Jose Arnaiz.

Alcacer, who has struggled for game-time at Barcelona after joining Valencia a couple of years back, has been heavily with a number of Premier League sides, including Everton. With Luis Suarez well ahead of him in the pecking order, he's only made a handful of starts this season, scoring three goals.

Meanwhile, Arnaiz has just burst onto the scene this season having made the step up from the club's B team. The 22-year old, who joined from Valladolid in the summer, has made four appearances in the Blaugrana first-team in recent times, notching three goals.

His displays have caught the eye of Everton, who are said to have reached out to the La Liga leaders. As with Alcacer though, a deal won't be happening as Barcelona are believed to have told Everton "No".

Though Everton are still keen on a couple more signings, they do look set to get rid of several players this month, with summer signings Sandro Ramirez and Davy Klaassen, as well as Oumar Niasse, primed as likely departees.

Allardyce has confirmed there will be need to be players leaving because his squad is too big.

"There would have to be some exits," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"I don't think there is any doubt about that because we've got about 30 players.

"Some of them are a lot of young talent that has developed and needs developing and maybe we might choose to let that development happen somewhere else on loan until the end of the season.

"But certainly, at the moment, we need to move a few players to bring maybe one or two in. I don't think we need to think about any more than that - maybe three - that would really good business."
