Crystal Palace Sign Former Liverpool Number One

He never actually played a Premier League game for the Reds but he's almost certainly going to appear for Palace.

Roy Hodgson's time at Liverpool was neither long nor prosperous but the former England manager has used his experience at Anfield to make his latest signing in the battle to stay in the Premier League.

When Roy Hodgson took over at Crystal Palace earlier in the season the team hadn't so much as scored a goal, never mind actually got any points on the board, so for them to be currently out of the relegation zone is a success in itself right now, but there's a long way to go.

The 70 year-old will have felt he's got a lot to prove after his last job saw him leave after being embarrassed by Iceland in the Euro 2016 as England manager, but it's not the first time he's had something to prove.

Check out our Liverpool what might have been XI:

In 2010 Hodgson was appointed manager of Liverpool but last merely six months at Anfield before being replaced by Kenny Dalglish. After that he worked himself back up to get the national team manager.

He may not have had long with the Reds but his short time there may have helped him. Today Palace signed Diego Cavalieri on a free transfer. The Brazilian was at Liverpool between 2008 and 2010, never making a Premier League appearance.

Hodgson actually sold the 35 year old but his experience at Anfield and time at Cesena and Fluminense since then were clearly enough to persuade Palace to sign him until the end of the season.

Speaking to the club's website the player said, "I am very happy to be here and have been training with the guys for some time now. The atmosphere in the dressing room has been really good and they have received me very well so we can talk a lot and get to know everyone. I am very happy with this opportunity."

During his time at Liverpool he wore the number one shirt that had previously been worn by Jerzy Dudek and played just a handful games in the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup.

He will provide competition with Wayne Hennessey and Julian Speroni.
