Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson will surely need new arrivals in January if the Eagles are to retain their Premier League stats and it seems as though he has identified a top target for the window next month.

Darren Lewis from The Mirror says that Palace are "confident of agreeing a deal" for former Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez.

The experienced shotstopper is currently playing for Espanyol in La Liga after impressing on loan last season and Hodgson wants him at Selhurst Park as his No.1 goalkeeper in between the sticks.

The former England manager has swapped between Julian Speroni and Wayne Hennessey in his stint in charge so far but feels his side would be stronger with 36-year old Lopez.

Lopez would come with a wealth of experience, having had two spells with Real Madrid, winning La Liga, the Copa Del Rey and the Champions League.

For a period, he was able to displace permanent fixture Iker Casillas in the Los Blancos side and notably put in two excellent performances against Manchester United in the Champions League quarter final.

The former Villarreal and Sevilla man joined AC Milan in 2014 and was a regular at the San Siro until the emergence of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has made the goalkeeping berth his own at the Rossoneri.

Palace have shipped 27 goals this season and the potential signing of Lopez, a very, very good goalkeeper.

Should Palace go after Lopez and would it give them a better chance of staying up?

Sound off in the comments.
