Chelsea Sign Borussia Dortmund Winger Christian Pulisic For £58 Million

The young American winger will return to the Bundesliga club on loan for the rest of the season.

Chelsea have made the first major signing of 2019 with Borussia Dortmund confirming that the Premier League club have signed 20 year old Christian Pulisic for £58 million, though the American will stay in Germany for this season.

Pulisic was available for free next summer but they have paid big money to make sure they were ahead of the queue with the likes of Liverpool being linked with a move as well.

The American will remain with Dortmund for the rest of the season, on loan, as they attempt to win the Bundesliga.

In a statement on the club's website sporting director Michael Zorc said, "It was always Christian's dream to play in the Premier League. That certainly has to do with his American background, and as a result we were unable to extend his contract. Against this background, we have decided to accept an extremely lucrative bid by Chelsea, given the low contract maturity.

"Christian Pulisic is a character perfect player. I am sure that in the coming months he will do everything in his power to bring his high quality to the team and to achieve his sporting goals with his team-mates Borussia Dortmund."

The move will instantly cast a shadow over the future of Eden Hazard at Stamford Bridge as many will speculate that the signing of the 20 year old will be to replace the Belgian.

Hazard has constantly been linked with a move to Real Madrid, something he hasn't denied that he's interested in, and this could make that move more likely.

Another Blues player who may be affected is Callum Hudson-Odoi. The 18 year old has been of interest to both Dortmund and Bayern Munich and Maurizio Sarri has claimed the teenager isn't yet ready for Premier League football.

Pulisic has actually only started five Bundesliga games for Dortmund this season but with Lucien Favre's side top by six points to rivals Bayern Munich they'll be desperate to get the best out of him between now and the summer.
