Chelsea Set To Battle Manchester United For Summer Transfer Target

The Blues have joined their Premier League rivals in the chase for a player who will be very popular in the transfer market.

Chelsea could be in direct competition with their former manager Jose Mourinho when the transfer window opens in the summer. The two sides have their eyes on one of the Premier League's top talents.

The first time Jose Mourinho left Chelsea there was always the feeling that whilst results had dropped off a bit the break up wasn't all his fault and one day he would return, the love would be back and all would be right with the world again.

Check out our video on some of football's best rivalries:

After stints with Inter Milan and Real Madrid that's exactly what did happen and the 'Special One' returned to give them another Premier League title but the second time he left things were far more sour and only got worse when he joined Manchester United.

Soon the Blues had a new man to love in Antonio Conte and the rivalry with United and Mourinho grew bitter, especially between the two managers in recent slanging matches.

Now that rivalry could set to stretch into the transfer market this summer, even if Antonio Conte might not be at Stamford Bridge. According to the Mirror Chelsea are joining United in the battle to sign Toby Alderweireld from Spurs this summer.

PSG also hold an interest in the Belgian centre back who has become one of the Premier League's best defenders in the defence that has conceded the least goals in the last two seasons.

However he only has two years left on his contract and next summer would be available for £25 million because of a clause in his contract. Spurs refuse to meet his demands of £150k-a-week and so they could be interested in selling this summer.

Spurs could decide to sell this summer because they'd be likely to make much closer to the £75 million that Southampton made on selling Virgil van Dijk, the same sale is why the player wants a similar contract.

The 29 year old Spurs centre back hasn't played for Mauricio Pochettino's side since the clubs' FA Cup draw with Rochdale in February despite the fact he's been fit.

Kyle Walker ended last season in a similar position when Kieran Trippier became the side's first choice right back after Walker made it clear he wanted to leave at the end of the season, the full back did still play but less.

Will Alderweireld still be at Spurs next season?
