How do you replace a player as good as John Terry? The answer might be that Chelsea haven't really, not with Gary Cahill's form disappearing. And now the Blues are turning to a surprise name to help them.

For years John Terry was Chelsea. The centre back was the longest serving player by quite some distance and their ever present captain, leader and apparently legend, helping them to win five Premier League titles.

Terry played less last season and Chelsea were still able to win the Premier League but with Gary Cahill and David Luiz' form falling off a cliff this term they have definitely missed the presence of their former defender as he's joined Aston Villa.

Last summer the Blues signed Antonio Rudiger and Luiz came in the summer before but Antonio Conte has seemed desperate to bring in another centre back at times and now it seems the Stamford Bridge side have their eye on one, whether he's there or not.

According to the Mirror the west London side are readying themselves for a £30 million summer move for Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles with Chelsea attracted to his leadership qualities as well as defensive abilities.

Lascelles is still relatively young at 24 but has been impressing fans since the season that Newcastle were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship two years ago.

Since then Lascelles captained the Magpies in their one season in the Championship, leading them to automatic promotion and the title at the first time of asking, and he looks likely to help keep them up this season but that could be it.

The former Nottingham Forest defender is believed to be happy playing for Rafa Benitez' side but the money on offer could be too much for the club, and the player, to turn down.

Check out our interview with John Terry:

Many have talked of Lascelles potentially getting a call up to the England squad, though he missed out on a call up for the last round of friendlies, and his playing time makes him more likely to make the World Cup than Cahill.

On several occasions this season Chelsea have proved how much they've missed an in form Terry, could they have their replacement?
