Bernardo Silva Reveals Cristiano Ronaldo's Role In His Transfer To Manchester City

Bernardo Silva Reveals Cristiano Ronaldo's Role In His Transfer To Manchester City

Bernardo Silva was one of many AS Monaco stars to leave the Stade Louis II during the summer, and the midfield sensation secured his transfer to the blue side of Manchester with the help of a former United hero.

The 23-year-old rose to prominence following an impressive campaign with AS Monaco. But the club were unable to hold onto his services, not to mention half the team, as Manchester City tabled a £43 million offer.

And ahead of him penning the lucrative five-year contract, Silva discussed the move with two former United stars in Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani.

"When I was with Portugal at the Confederations Cup and about to sign, I asked Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani about the city. They told me how much they enjoyed it here," he told FourFourTwo.

They continued by praising the league, and the city. "They said that all of the people were great and that it's a real football city.

"The Premier League, too - a competitive league with full stadiums each week and everyone watching. They both said it would be a great move."

As Pep Guardiola's charges mount a challenge for both domestic and European honours, Silva has his eyes on making history with his new club by lifting the coveted Champions League trophy.

"The Champions League is more difficult to win," Silva said when comparing the Champions League to the Premier League title.

"Of course, the Premier League isn't easy to win, but the Champions League has all of the best teams in Europe, so it's as good as it gets. Manchester City have never won it either, so I want to make history."

"The Premier League title is a big goal for the club this season, but the Champions League is huge. When you're at a club like City, you have to fight to win every competition," he added.

Silva will be contesting for a spot in Guardiola's starting XI as they entertain Liverpool on Saturday lunch time.
