Jurgen Klopp has received a fresh blow regarding his summer transfer activities. It's no secret that the German is hellbent on bolstering his Liverpool squad once the window reopens but he'll miss out on one of his top targets.

That's because his former side have beat him to a budding German star. According to Borussia Mönchengladbach, Mahmoud Dahoud will complete a move to fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

The 21-year-old will link up with Thomas Tuchel's side, one year ahead of the end of his current contract, and joins a long list of talented youngsters on their books in Ousmane Dembele, Christian Pulisic, Emre Mor, among others.

The promising youngster joined Gladbach from Fortuna Düsseldorf's youth setup in 2010, and enjoyed three seasons at the Borussia-Park garnering plenty of attention.

Eventually securing a move away. Speaking to the clubs website, sporting director Max Eberl said. "It was a very tough decision for Mo. It's a shame that we're losing a talent like him, but we have always managed to compensate for departures in the past."

Gladbach knocked back Liverpool's previous advances last summer who tabled an offer, though the German outfit refused to sell their player.

But entering the final year of his contract, needless to say, Gladbach wanted to avoid a situation where he could leave on a free, thus eventually selling up.

Dahoud was reportedly stalling on signing a contract extension which forced the club to listen to offers with a believed £8.5 million fee prizing the midfielder away from Gladbach.

Klopp misses out on a player who was high on his shortlist as he'll look to other options in the summer.

Meanwhile, Liverpool, who currently occupy a Champions League spot, face Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday lunchtime.
