Arsene Wenger will be hoping that there's no spanners in the works as he attempts to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund but the Bundesliga club are actually unhappy with the Frenchman.

It's a weirdly active January for Arsene Wenger with the Arsenal boss in the middle of selling Alexis Sanchez in exchange for Henrikh Mkhitaryan whilst he also hunts down another forward, likely to be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at this point.

As if that wasn't enough for him the Arsenal boss also decided to finally sell Theo Walcott, with the winger going for around £20 million to Everton, and kick off their season collapse early by losing in the FA Cup to Nottingham Forest.

Aubameyang's name makes him a writer's nightmare but who's in our commentator's nightmare XI?

On Thursday Wenger was asked about Aubameyang being a good fit at the Emirates and he said, "Yes because a character can be very positive and very negative. Overall you look at the achievement of the player over his career."

But that hasn't gone down too well in Germany with the would be selling club hitting back with a statement about the 28 year old, saying:

"Borussia Dortmund would like to make a statement in response to the comments made by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

"...Aubameyang has been linked for some time with a possible switch to Arsenal. On Thursday, in the run-up to their game against Crystal Palace, Wenger was asked whether he could give an update on the possible transfer for the Dortmund player.

Dortmund's technical director Michael Zorc added "We find it disrespectful to respond to (questions about) players from other clubs. There is no contact with Arsenal. We assume that Arsene Wenger is busy enough with the performance of his own players."

The former AC Milan forward was initially expected to be in the Dortmund squad to face Hertha Berlin on Friday but he has since been removed from it as speculation intensifies over his future.

This season the 28 year old has scored 13 goals in 15 games for the Bundesliga side and Gunners fans would love him to bring that sort of form to the Premier League.
