Benfica Give Lesson On How To Do Transfers

Smart piece of business.

Despite being a relative minnow among the European giants, Benfica have shown how to deal in transfer windows.

Nicolas Gaitan is the latest player to have been nurtured by Benfica before selling him on for big money. Atletico Madrid are set to complete the deal for the attacking midfielder for an 25 million. The Argentinian was drafted in for around 8 million, while doubling their profit.

The Portugese have acted fast in replacing Gaitan, signing Andrija Zivkovic. The Serbia follows in the footsteps of fellow Serbians joining Benfica in Nemanja Matic and Lazar Markovic. The 19-year-old is highly regarded and has even been adopted with the moniker of 'The Serbian Messi'.

High praise indeed, but if Zivkovic can produce as is expected of him, then you can presume the usual suitors to come knocking in a few years.
