It appears Atletico Madrid are in pole position to sign a budding star, beating Manchester United to the signing in the process.

The La Liga outfit have already bolstered their ranks following the capture of Diego Costa from Chelsea, though the former player will return to the pitch once the transfer window reopens in January.

After striking a deal with Chelsea for Costa, Atletico Madrid have now followed up their initial interest for a young attacking midfielder by tabling a bid.

According to reports from Turkish outlet Hurriyet, the Spanish club have submitted a £12.4 million offer for Yusuf Yazici.

The Trabzonspor star has been attracting plenty of interest following his outings in the Turkish Super Lig.

As well as Atletico Madrid and Manchester United, fellow Premier League side Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, AS Monaco, to name but a few, are also keeping tabs on the 20-year-old.

Though Atletico Madrid are reportedly leading the race to his signature.

Despite the bid, club president Muharram Usta is in no hurry to sell his prize asset, and is hoping to hold onto his services for the rest of the season.

"I want to see Yusuf here for our 50th year anniversary squad," he said via MEN.

"He will be sold when the time is right, Yusuf will be an ambassador for the club and reach the highest level," Usta added.

Last season, Yazici weighed in with six goals and ten assists from 22 appearances for Trabzonspor.

His performances for his club have already prompted an international call-up, making his Turkey debut in June against Kosovo.

And he marked his international bow with an assist. Creating Turkey's fourth goal in a 4-1 victory in a World Cup qualifier.

Meanwhile, Yazici penned a new deal in March, and is contracted with the club for another five years.
