Christian Eriksen was expected to move from Spurs to Real Madrid this summer when he revealed he wanted to leave North London but now it looks like his destination could be Atletico Madrid.

Despite reaching the Champions League final with Spurs last season, Christian Eriksen decided it was time for him to leave north London.

Speaking on June 5th after the season finished the Dane said, "I feel that I am at a stage of my career where I would like to try something new." After initial links to Real Madrid things have gone quiet for Eriksen.

However now there's fresh reports that he could move to Madrid, only this time the name on the contract won't be Real but Atletico, with Diego Simeone's side eyeing up a move if they don't sign James Rodriguez from their cross city rivals, according to MARCA.

Rodriguez spent two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich, and had a future fee in the deal, but the Bundesliga champions decided against signing him permanently.

Atleti have become favourites to sign the Colombian but they're yet to make an offer and it's very much dependant on Real setting a reasonable fee for the former Monaco man.

On top of that Napoli have also been considering signing the former Puskas Award winner, with Carlo Ancelotti apparently keen to work with Rodriguez again.

The 28-year-old was a key part of Ancelotti's team at the Bernabeu and it was the Italian who signed him temporarily when he was in charge at the Allianz Arena.

Eriksen was originally touted for a £150 million move to Real but Atleti would expect to negotiate a significantly cheaper fee for the former Ajax man.

The Spurs playmaker doesn't want to sign a new contract for Mauricio Pochettino's team and with just one season left on his contract it's in the club's best interests to sell him.

Atleti have had a very busy summer transfer window, signing Joao Felix, Kieran Trippier, Marcos Llorente, Felipe and Hector Herrera, amongst many others.

There has been a lot of outgoings at the Wanda Metropolitano too with Antoine Griezmann, Lucas Hernandez and Rodri the biggest names to leave.

It could be huge season for Atletico and the signing of Eriksen would make them even better.
