Aston Villa Break Championship Transfer Record

Not only have Aston Villa splashed the cash on acquiring Ross McCormack's services, they've now completed a Championship transfer record for another striker.

Villa have signed Jonathan Kodjia from Bristol City for a whopping £15 million on a four-year contract. The midlands club will pay an initial £11 million with further potential add-on's.

The Ivory Coast international had been subject to interest from a number of clubs but Roberto Di Matteo finally lands his man after beating off competition from both Derby County and Hull City.

The Frenchman joined City last year from French side Angers SCO - where he compiled 52 appearances bagging 20 goals in all competitions - for a reported £2.5 million. Despite the City faithfuls disappointed to see him leave Ashton Gate, it's a piece of brilliant business by Steve Lansdown.

So, Villa have signed a offside merchant proven Championship striker, as they seek to bounce back to the Premier League following relegation to England's second tier.

The deal comes a few days after City trounced Villa 3-1 including another goal from Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham. Villa done over twice by City in a matter days.
