Arsenal Eye Up Summer Replacement For Petr Cech

Arsenal Eye Up Summer Replacement For Petr Cech

The former Chelsea goalkeeper is having a terrible time in the Premier League right now.

Petr Cech was supposed to be worth 15 points a season, if that's still the case then Arsenal would be in a relegation battle. However it's certainly not the case anymore and Arsenal are considering replacing the Czech goalkeeper.

It took Arsenal quite some time to find a goalkeeper good enough and consistent enough to replace Jens Lehmann. Once the German left Manuel Almunia, Lukasz Fabiański, Vito Mannone, Wojciech Szczęsny and David Ospina all had a go before Petr Cech was signed.

Check out our Arsenal what could have been XI:

When the former Rennes man came over from Chelsea it was seen as an absolute coup, he'd still been number one for the Blues in the previous season before Thibaut Courtois took over from him.

Cech is one of the best goalkeepers the Premier League has seen and was integral to Jose Mourinho's early success but his form at the Emirates has never lived up to the billing.

Recently his form has been just as poor as the team's as a whole and he should have done better for both of Brighton's goal at the weekend.

According to the Daily Mail Arsenal's new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat once a new number one and his eyes set on Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno as Cech's replacement.

Mislintat joined from Borussia Dortmund earlier this season and it's believed that he had a major influence on the decision to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as Wenger's own influence seems to wane.

The 26 year-old keeper is likely to be another favourite of Mislintat and he has a good knowledge of the Bundesliga. Obviously any signing in 'goal' would cast doubt of Cech's future as he's unlikely to want to stay as a second choice.

The 35 year-old is on 199 Premier League clean sheets but he has been waiting to get to his double century for what seems like an age right now. The Gunners have conceded in each of their last 11 league games.

The last time Wenger's side managed to shut out league opposition was on December 16th against Newcastle, since then they've let in 19 goals, including five last week against Brighton and Manchester City.

It looks like Cech's time could be up, can he get to 200 clean sheets before then?
