Antonio Conte Makes £60 Million Club Record Bid For Defender

Huge money!

Despite a dramatic late win over West Ham on Monday, in his opening Premier League fixture as Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte is clearly not completely happy with his team as he gets set to break the club's transfer record and the world record for a defender.

Chelsea looked pretty solid against Slaven Bilic's side earlier this week and only conceded following a corner but there wasn't many threats on their goal. With Kurt Zouma to come back from injury as well you'd have thought Chelsea were pretty well stocked in defence but Conte clearly doesn't think so.

The former Juventus boss has reportedly gone back to a transfer target from earlier in the summer by making a £60 million bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly. That would break the club record for a transfer fee currently held by Fernando Torres' £50 million move from Liverpool.

The French born Senegal international is highly rated in Serie A and had been linked with a move earlier this summer with Napoli wanting at least £45 million for the centre back but Chelsea's desperation to land the 25 year old seems to have increased his price.

The signing could allow Conte to play a system that incorporates three defenders as he did during his successful spell at Juventus and again this summer with Italy at the Euros in France. It could also spell trouble for Gary Cahill's prospects as a first team player.

If Koulibaly did sign for that much money he would break the world record price for a defender of £50 million which is held by former Chelsea defender David Luiz whilst John Stones move to Manchester City could equal that price dependant on add-ons.

What position do you think Chelsea need to sign a player for?
