Many Manchester United fans would love to see Ander Herrera as the next club captain and that idea will be made stronger if he rejects PSG and agrees to stay with the Premier League club.

Whilst Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford have received the highest praise for Manchester United's upturn in fortunes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the underrated hero of their season has been Ander Herrera.

The midfielder was never one of the player to receive the most criticism in the pre Solskjaer era but the Spaniard has become even better since December and his passion and commitment to the cause make his a fan favourite.

On Friday morning there were reports that Ligue 1 champions PSG had already contacted the former Athletic Bilbao midfielder over a summer move and a £150k a week contract, with both Marca and RMC Sport backing up English reports that a deal is close.

However according to ESPN the Spanish midfielder wants to stay at his current club and despite not yet signing a new deal the 29 year old wants to extend his time at Old Trafford past the summer.

Herrera was initially a target at Old Trafford in the summer of 2013, when David Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson, but wasn't signed until a year later when Louis van Gaal took over.

He has gone through patches of not being in the first team and being almost irreplaceable in midfield but his current spell has been his best in the Premier League.

Whilst the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Scott McTominay have all signed new deals at the club they are yet to tie the Bilbao midfielder down past the summer.

Any thought of him leaving comes at a bad time for the Premier League side with fellow midfielder Pogba admitting this week that it would be any player's dream to play for Real Madrid.

PSG's interest comes with them set to lose Adrien Rabiot on a free at the end of the season and a continued desire to keep transfer prices down after recent purchases of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

With a four year deal and £150k a week on the table Herrera is now in a strong negotiating position with his current club, or he could decide to take PSG's offer.

Will Herrera leave Manchester United?
