The legendary Franz Beckenbauer has been named the best centre-back of all time in a star-studded list of legends.

And 90min ranked the two-time Ballon d'Or winner top of the pile, calling him the 'king of German football' and the 'king of centre-backs.'

Beckenbauer captured both the Euros and World Cup with West Germany, as well as winning three consecutive European Cups and four Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich.

AC Milan legend Franco Baresi was hailed as the 'best Italian central defender of all time' and finished ahead of World Cup winner Bobby Moore.

The only active player to crack the top 10 was Sergio Ramos, who finished ahead of Ronald Koeman, Daniel Passarella and Billy Wright.

90min pointed to the 34-year-old Real Madrid captain's incredible achievements, both silverware and individual feats, as further argument for his seventh-placed ranking.
