Paul Pogba's World Cup performances were difficult not to take notice of, especially for critics of the France midfielder. His former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic backed him up with the most perfect of messages.

You'd almost feel sorry for Graeme Souness if the former Liverpool midfielder turned football pundit wasn't so vitriolic and over the top in his criticism of Paul Pogba for pretty much the entire time.

Souness has definitely been Pogba's fiercest critic since the Frenchman swapped Italy for a return to Manchester United two summers ago so this World Cup would have been a difficult watch for the Scot.

Not only did France win the tournament with the 25 year old playing all but one of their games but he was an integral part of the team, really proving Souness and the many other critics wrong.

In the final on Sunday the former Juve player really hit home how good he is with an excellent display topped off with a goal that he started and ended the move for. His sweeping ball found the run of Kylian Mbappe and his curling shot from outside the area put France 3-1 up.

After the match his former United teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic summed up the feelings of sticking two fingers up at the critics with a perfect tweet:

There's no doubt that at this tournament that Pogba let his game do the talking and there could be no complaints about his hair colour or the amount he was posting on Instagram or any other terrible takes about he plays.

Some suggested early in the tournament that N'Golo Kante was the difference to how Pogba played but on Sunday the Chelsea midfielder was poor and subbed off early in the second half.

Jose Mourinho would have been watching the World Cup with a lot of intrigue as quite a few of his players played really well but it's a bit of a double edged sword for the Manchester United boss.

Having seen Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Victor Lindelof really impress for their countries it'll be on him if they don't replicate that form in the Premier League next season.

For now though he, Ibra and Pogba can have a good laugh at the expense of all the Frenchman's critics.
