Atletico Madrid had near-perfect preparation for the upcoming Champions League second leg clash with Leicester City following a routine 3-0 win over Osasuna at the Vicente Calderon.

Diego Simeone was able to rest some of his big-hitters, including talisman Antoine Griezmann, for the game, but Atleti still had enough about them to stroll to victory.

Yannick Carrasco bagged a double, while Filipe Luis was also on the scoresheet.

And it could have been even more comfortable had it not been for some heroics in between the sticks from Osasuna goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

The Italian was PSG's No.1 goalkeeper for a number of years but the arrival of Kevin Trapp has pushed him down the pecking order and led to him being loaned out to La Liga sides.

He joined Sevilla on loan in August but made just three appearances and then moved to Osasuna temporarily.

And he's not doing too shabby, particularly if you're going off his display yesterday as Sirigu saved two penalties in two minutes late in the game.

The 30-year old was at fault for the first spot-kick being awarded, having been deemed to have brought down Angel Correa in the box and subsequently awarded a yellow card

In the 88th minute, with Griezmann not on the pitch for spot-kick duty, Carrasco stepped up and had the opportunity to complete his hat-trick but Sirigu guessed right and produced a strong hand to tip the ball wide - making amends for his error.

Minutes later though, Atleti had another penalty when the referee gave handball against Juan Rafael Fuentes Hernández.

This time Thomas Partey stepped up and delivered a powerful penalty, but again the result was the same. The second one-handed save conjured up from Sirigi was simply stunning, given that the penalty was hit with such venom.

Well played, Salvatore.
