Sublime.

If you aren't an Arsenal or Southampton supporter, chances are your eyes were fixed on the Champions League semi-final second leg between Atletico and Real Madrid tonight.

With the crowd roaring them on in their final European game at the Vicente Calderon, Diego Simeone's side put in a relentless shift on home soil and won 2-1 on the night, but the damage done in the first leg at the Bernabeu was ultimately too much to overturn, and Isco's goal late in the first half only added to the already tough task at hand.

Anyway, it turns out there was reason to watch the other game - Arsenal's trip to St Mary's, as Alexis Sanchez scored an archetypal brilliant solo goal.

The Gunners had to wait until the 60th minute to break the deadlock in their game in hand against Claude Puel's side, but boy it was well worth the wait.

After Mesut Ozil fed Sanchez on the edge of the area, the Chilean turned sharply, completely sold two Saints defenders down the river with a deft dummy and supplied the finish by rolling the ball under Fraser Forster with his left foot.

Watch the goal here:

Sanchez's future is still very much up in the air, but he's still doing the business on the pitch when it matters - the strike against Southampton is his 20th Premier League goal of the campaign.

Social media was purring over the former Barcelona man after his bit of magic:

Olivier Giroud added a second seven minutes from time for Arsenal, who move up to fifth place above Manchester United as a result of the win.
