Sunderland have paid tribute to the legendary Bradley Lowery by releasing a special shirt that will raise money for charity.

The brave 6-year-old from Blackhall Colliery, near Hartlepool, captured the hearts of a nation with his charming smile and love for football.

Bradley sadly lost his battle with neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer, in July, but Sunderland, who Bradley was mascot for on a number of occasions, are ensuring his legacy lives on.

The club have created 'For Bradley' and in doing so have created a special edition home shirt with 'For Bradley, For Everyone' on the front - with the proceeds going towards building a holiday home, to be called 'Bradley's Place', for seriously ill children and their families.

The Black Cats players will wear the limited edition strip in the visit of Millwall to the Stadium of Light at the weekend, with the shirts then being auctioned off. The Lions are also doing their bit to pay tribute to Bradley by wearing training shirts featuring the logo of the foundation, as well as presenting a cheque.

Saturday will see the launch of the initiative, and starting from 9am, shirts will be able to purchased from the official Sunderland club shop or online. The shirts cost £49.99 for adults and £39.99 for juniors - and every penny will go towards the campaign.

Bradley's Mum Gemma says he will be "very proud" of what Sunderland are doing in his honour.

"One of our favourite memories is taking Bradley on holiday to Scarborough," she said.

"We are absolutely thrilled that Sunderland AFC suggested that we could create similar memories for other families.

"Since Bradley's sad passing in July we have worked tirelessly to ensure a positive legacy will come from his personal fight and I'm sure Bradley will be watching over everyone and be very proud that his legacy will now help others."

Club captain John O'Shea added:

"Bradley became firm friends with staff and players alike, leading the team out on a number of occasions. He made a huge impact on our club and the wider football community.

"Everyone at the club is honoured to be able to give our continued support to the Lowery family and the charity."
