17-year old hotshot Phil Foden is quite rightly hitting headlines again after scoring twice in England's incredible 5-2 Under 17 World Cup final win over Spain to scoop the trophy in Kolkata.

The talented crop of youngsters showed incredible character and quality to completely turn the game on its head and it was Foden who made the biggest impression out of all the players.

The pint-sized Stockport-born midfielder who is adored by Pep Guardiola, was in sensational form as England went all the way - orchestrating attacks, displaying lightning quick feet, having a frighteningly good two-footedness about him and being ice cool in front of goal.

He deservedly picked up the Golden Boy award for his sublime displays over the tournament, and there's every chance he can go on to achieve great things in the game.

In an exclusive interview with SPORTbible, back in March, the supremely gifted Foden told us that he's been obsessed with becoming a professional footballer from a very young age.

"Since very young my Dad always used to train me and it just went from there. I always wanted to be a footballer and believed that one day I would be one of the best in the world."

A silky left-footed player who has the vision for that killer pass, Foden studies both Lionel Messi and David Silva on a regular basis and looks to learn from the duo.

"Messi is my biggest inspiration, it doesn't get any better than him - I always watch him closely and try to learn from the best. I also enjoy watching David Silva."

Though he was promoted to the first-team this season and regularly trains with the big guns, Foden has yet to make a competitive appearance for City.

He has been on the bench on a number of occasions this season though, following on from a place among the subs against Celtic in the Champions League last season.

And the fact he was thrust into the first ever overseas Manchester derby in front of 67,000 fans in Houston in the summer, starting the game and looking completely at home, shows that Pep Guardiola has faith in him.

He would have been involved in last week's Carabao Cup game against Wolves but City decided keeping him with the England Under 17's and letting him have that experience in India was more valuable. Steve Cooper and his coaching team will no doubt have been delighted with that move on City's part, given the way he performed in the final.

Making the grade at City would mean absolutely everything to Foden, a local lad and a boyhood blue.

Commenting on his appearance on the bench last term, he said the following:

"Being at City since I was five years old, it was a massive achievement for me to make the bench. I enjoyed every second of it and just wanted to make my debut and make my family proud.

"It was good to get to know how the first-team work but hopefully I will get another opportunity and get on so I can show Pep I'm capable of playing in the first-team.

"Mikel Arteta just told me to keep doing what I'm doing because Pep is always watching.

"It would mean everything to me since I was young I've always dreamed of playing for City in my career. I wouldn't want to play anywhere else, I want to retire at City and be a first-team regular."
