N’Golo Kante’s Former Teammate Tells Heartwarming Story Of When He Invited Him To His Birthday Party

N'Golo Kante might be the most universally loved footballer in the world and, following his Champions League victory with Chelsea, another wholesome story about the midfielder has emerged.

Kante was Man of the Match in Saturday's victory over Manchester City in Porto, leading many to call for him to win this year's Ballon d'Or, something he dismissed in typically humble style.

The 30-year-old has won pretty much all there is to win in football but 'humble' is really the word that sums him, and his beginnings up best.

A former teammate, from his days in Ligue 2 with Caen, told a story of the World Cup winner arriving a birthday party and apologising for not knowing what to bring, because he'd never been invited to one before.

"I called [N'Golo] Kanté for my birthday, it was a small party," Felipe Saad told Brazilian outlet Uol Sport.

"Suddenly, he arrived at the restaurant with a box of chocolates, all ashamed.

"He apologised for the gift and said he didn't know what to get because he had never been invited to a birthday party before."

Despite Paul Pogba recently claiming his France teammate is actually a massive cheat, said admittedly with his tongue at least someway in his cheek, everyone does love Kante.

Saad explained that his former teammate, who left Caen for Leicester City in 2015, is exactly the same behind closed doors as we see.

"N'Golo is one of the best hearts I know, he's a profile that doesn't exist anymore in football," the 37-year-old Brazilian added.

"That's why there's unanimity amongst the players...inside the dressing room, he's just the same as what you guys see on the television."

In just six years since leaving Caen, who he helped get promoted into Ligue 1, Kante has won the Premier League with Leicester, moved to Chelsea, won the league, FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League with the Blues.

He also earned his first call up to the France team in 2016 and has since become an integral member of the squad, including a win at the 2018 World Cup.

If he helps Didier Deschamps side to win the Euros this summer then even Kante might struggle to ignore the Ballon d'Or calls, but he still will...
