Lukas Podolski Has Opened A Kebab Shop And We Should All Go

It's not every day a footballer opens his own kebab shop!

Lukas Podolski might be winding down his playing his career in football, playing in Japan's J League, but he's just given his greatest contribution to the world by opening his own kebab shop in the place he's most synonymous with, Cologne.

There was a time when retiring, and even often still active, footballers opened pubs and bars, what else were they going to do with their money but that culture has all but disappeared.

Back then footballers had more money than your average person but not enough to retire and sit on their arse for eternity, something today's players could afford to do after about a month.

Today's superwages means players don't have to be the epicentre of drinking culture in their communities which is even more reason to respect Podolski's decision to get everyone in Cologne fatter and happier by serving up kebabs.

Over 1000 people queued, some for five hours, as Mangal Döner opened on Bonner Street in Cologne on Saturday:

Speaking to German magazine 11 Freunde about his new venture the former Arsenal star said, "Other folks head to the golfing course after training, and just hang around there all-day long. I sell ice cream, Kebab and clothing, have fun and everyone can take something home.

"I back this project 100%, and will help where I can help. I want to continue developing this project. I always put my foot to the floor!"

So basically the man with 130 Germany caps to his name and a World Cup winners medal is happy to serve Kebabs along with the rest of his colleagues.

I've got to be honest lie I've been googling things to do in Cologne just to make my trip worthwhile, who doesn't want a Podolski Kebab?!
