Fernando Torres Gets Incredible Reaction On Debut In Japan

The former Atletico Madrid striker has moved to Far East Asia but unlike a lot of players he hasn't moved to the Chinese Super League.

Japan isn't exactly renowned for being an incredible football nation and their domestic league certainly isn't one you're likely to hear much about, however their fans have proved they're as passionate as anyone with their welcome for Fernando Torres.

There hasn't been a World Cup without Japan since 1998, it almost feels like we can't have a tournament without them coming along. This summer they made it into the knockout stages and were within minutes of making the quarter final.

That said you don't instantly think Japan when you think football and equally football isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Japan.

Last year Lukas Podolski decided that the J League would be the next step in his career and this summer he's been joined by both Fernando Torres and Andres Iniesta. Torres was clearly excited to be making his debut in Japan for Sagan Tosu:

Torres didn't start the match against Vegalta Sendai but made his entrance in the 50th minute with the two teams locked at 0-0. His fans were clearly happy to see him as the crowd erupted into cheers when he came on:

Unfortunately for the former World Cup and Euro winner he wasn't able to have too much of an affect on the game and it was Sendai who grabbed a late winner with their own striker Takuma Nishimura scoring in the 87th minute.

Torres was very thankful for the atmosphere after the match:

The former Chelsea and Liverpool striker will be hoping for better results going forward. Imagine the roar from the crowd if he manages to score a late winner.
