To mark your European debut with a sensation free-kick is the stuff of dreams. But Trent Alexander-Arnold's dreams became a reality, last night.

The 18-year-old opened the scoring during Liverpool's Champions League qualifying match against German opposition Hoffenheim.

And did so in incredible fashion. The right-back stepped up to take a sublime free-kick which nestled in the bottom corner.

Despite having a German, English and Brazilian international around the ball, Alexander-Arnold was on free-kick duties.

And after sealing the 2-1 victory, Jurgen Klopp explained why he selected him to take them.

"He is an incredible young player," Klopp said in the post-match press conference via ESPN. "I told him he had to take it -- he can shoot free kicks better than I ever could. But I don't want the credit for it!"

"I have to say for an 18-year-old, who has the balls to take a free kick like that, it is rather more exciting and interesting for me than a little mistake he makes."

"I told him to take it because I watched him many times for the Under-23's last season. He took the free kicks then and, by the way, the goal is the same size."

While Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson also showered him with praise and underlined Klopp's point.

"He's been doing that every day in training for two weeks, that's why he's on them," he said after the game to BT Sports.

The teenage admits he was 'egged on' to take free-kicks.

"I kind of got egged on to do it, to be honest. I never put my hand up at first, but I had the confidence to finally take it and it paid off," the youngster told BT Sport following the game.
