Jordan Henderson embraced his dad with tears in his eyes after becoming the fifth Liverpool captain to lift the European Cup a year ago today.

Goals from Mo Salah and Divock Origi gave the Reds a 2-0 win over Spurs in the all-Premier League showpiece and after collecting his medal and holding the trophy aloft, Henderson went over to see his old man in the crowd.

Brian Henderson was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2013 and told his son not to visit him because he didn't want him to see him while he was the way he was.

But having overcome the disease, Henderson Sr was in Madrid to see his son get his hands on the richest prize in club football.

And when Henderson found his dad, he gave him a big old hug as tears streamed down his face in a truly wonderful moment. All the feels.

Brian also got his hands (or teeth) on his son's Champions League winners' medal too and looked like he was having the time of his life.

The Wearsider was beaming with pride after his son realised a childhood dream - with Brian revealing to Optus Sport TV that a 10-year old Jordan told him he would play in the Champions League final one day.

"When he was 10 I took him to see a Champions League final at Manchester United between the two Milans and he said to us, when they came out to the Champions League music, he said, 'dad I'm going to play there one day'.

"He's done it not once, but twice. And he's won one. I'm absolutely delighted for him.

"I think if he hadn't picked that trophy up today he would have had a bad, bad summer. But now he'll have a fantastic summer with the children."

Summing up the feeling of what it was like to see his boy lift the big one, he added: "It's just very emotional, the tears come, you start shaking, you grab your wife, you grab your daughter-in-law, you grab anybody that's around you. I'm just so, so happy."

A year later and Mr Henderson will soon get to see his son lift the Premier League trophy for the first time, when football returns in a few weeks, though he won't get the immediate hug of last year.
