Trouble outside Anfield before Liverpool's Champions League semi-final with Roma left one 53 year old in hospital after being attacked by Roma fans. Now Jordan Henderson has sent a message to the fan.

Two men aged 20 and 29 were arrested in Liverpool for attempted murder, and several others detained for other clashes between fans, that left 53 year old Liverpool fan Sean Cox in hospital in a critical condition.

With the fan in hospital club captain Jordan Henderson, who was excellent in midfield on Tuesday night, has sent a fitting message on social media, saying:

"The thoughts and prayers of all the players are with the Liverpool fan who is currently very poorly in hospital, after being badly hurt ahead of our game last night.

"He came to watch a football match and support our team - the only result that matters to us now is that he recovers and can return home to be with his family and loved ones.

"You'll Never Walk Alone
"

Roma fans have a history of violence having clashed with Liverpool fans in 2001, Middlesbrough fans in 2006, Manchester United fans in 2007, Arsenal fans in 2009 and Chelsea fans earlier this season.

The Serie A side put out a statement after the incident, saying, "AS Roma condemns in the strongest possible terms the abhorrent behavior of a small minority of traveling fans who brought shame on the club and the vast majority of Roma's well-behaved supporters at Anfield after getting involved in clashes with Liverpool supporters before last night's fixture.

"There is no place for this type of vile behavior in football and the club is now cooperating with Liverpool Football Club, UEFA and the authorities.

"The club's thoughts and prayers are with the 53-year-old Liverpool fan in hospital and his family at this time.
"

Hopefully the correct action is taken against Roma and their fans, even if it's the minority ruining it for the rest something must be done otherwise fans won't feel safe when playing against their team.

Our thoughts go out to Sean and his family and we wish him a speedy and full recovery.
