The question on everyone's lips when it comes to Harry Kane and the Premier League is can the Spurs striker go on to break Alan Shearer's goals record. It will take a few years to answer that question but Kane has one match to break another Shearer record.

Alan Shearer had one hell of a sparkling career when it came to scoring goals. In fact in the Premier League era no one else has come close to matching what the former Southampton, Blackburn and Newcastle striker did.

In his career the former England captain managed to find the back of the net 260 times. The closest man to him in the 'clubhouse' is Andrew Cole on 187 but Wayne Rooney is closer still, and yet to retire, on 208.

However at 32 it does seem, despite his upturn in form recently, that Shearer's record is just beyond him but for Harry Kane and his 93 goals it very much feels like a probability.

But after his hat-trick against Burnley on Saturday night another Shearer record might just be three days away. Kane scored his 34th, 35th and 36th Premier League goals of 2017 equalling Shearer's record from 1995 when he was a Blackburn Rovers player.

The goals mean that the 24 year-old became equal top scorer in the Premier League for this season and propelled him above Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie in the list for most goals in a calendar year.

On Boxing Day at home in Wembley against Southampton he has the chance to beat Shearer's long standing record and head closer to the first landmark of scoring 100 Premier League goals.

Kane's trio of goals on Saturday put him level with Edinson Cavani, Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo on 53 goals in all competitions this year and just one behind Lionel Messi but La Liga is now on a break so the Englishman could finish the year as top scorer.
