Harry Kane is Europe's top goalscorer for the year, overtaking Lionel Messi in less games, after bagging his second goal against Southampton on Boxing Day.

It's not very often someone not called Lionel Messi beats Cristiano Ronaldo, it's not very often someone not called Cristiano Ronaldo beats Lionel Messi, it's almost unheard of that someone beats both of them, and everyone else.

Tottenham and England's Harry Kane is on fire right now. Even before Saturday's early kick off against Southampton the 24 year old had scored eight goals in his previous eight games.

His hat-trick against Burnley put him on 36 Premier League goals for the year and by half-time against the Saints he was on 38.

And in the second half he bagged back-to-back hat-tricks and his eighths treble of the year

But the former Norwich City loanee doesn't just score in the league and his first two of the day put him on 55 goals for 2017, in just 52 games, taking him ahead of Lionel Messi who has no more games in 2017.

It means that Kane is top scorer in the calendar year:

Right now the Englishman is absolutely unstoppable and if he and Spurs can start winning major trophies then he could one day be a Ballon d'Or winner.

He'll also be eyeing Alan Shearer's 260 Premier League goals.
