Goal Of The Day: Luis Figo Catches Fabian Barthez Off-Guard

Cross or shot? Either way, it was a sumptuous goal.

Luis Figo, aka the most suave bloke to ever grace the planet, turns 44 today. The Portuguese man turned out for Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan in his career and won league titles at every club he played for.

He also won the Champions League with Real Madrid as part of the Galacticos and also won esteemed indivudual accolades such as the Ballon d'Or in 2000 and FIFA World Player of the Year a year later.

To commemorate his birthday, naturally we chose to pick one of his finest strikes as our goal of the day. There was a lovely selection of goals to choose from, but ultimately we've gone for Figo's goal scored against Manchester United in 2003 in a 3-1 win for Real Madrid.

Being honest, I'm still not totally sure whether he meant it as a cross or a shot but the way he wheeled away in celebration after seeing the ball go into the back of the net can make one believe that it was every bit intentional. And at the end of the day he's Luis Figo, he can pretty much do anything.

Anyway, the goal was a silky chip from the left after a pass from Zinedine Zidane. We could easily watch the goal on repeat. He just makes it look so simple.

Here it is in all its glory.

Happy birthday, Luis, we won't mention the time that John O'Shea nutmegged you. Oh wait...
