Manchester United teammates David De Gea and Ander Herrera have been engaging in a bit of banter on social media in their break away from football.

The Spaniards are due to link up again this month as they return to first-team training ahead of a pre-season tour of the United States, and then the season itself.

And they both reckon they have enough about them to swap positions with one another next term.

Herrera, one of United's top performers last season, started it all off by posting a video of him having a bit of a beach football kickabout.

At the end of the clip, the former Athletic Bilbao man went in between the sticks and produced a brilliant one-handed save to tip a shot around the post.

He called out all three of United's goalkeepers: De Gea, Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira and jokingly suggested they should be scared of his shot-stopping abilities.

"Hi D_DeGea, Chiqui [Sergio Romero] and ElgatoPereira1, I hope you guys are enjoying your holidays but you should be a bit scared." Herrera wrote.

Both Romero and Pereira have yet to respond, but De Gea was quick with a reply.

United and Spain's No.1 swiftly let Herrera know that he fancies his chances playing outfield, pointing him in the direction of an incredible free-kick he scored in Spain training.

Iker Casillas had absolutely no chance.

"I think you should be the one to be scared." De Gea replied in his Tweet.

Here are some of the best reactions to De Gea's dose of banter:
