Super Agent Mendes Tactics To Thwart Future Manchester City Deals

Manchester City are adamant the agent of Cristiano Ronaldo has used the club in order to get the player to rivals United.

The drama that began to unfold yesterday is why we love the game. The romance, the nostolgia and the imagination of the future. But not everyone is feeling the sweet taste of Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford.

At 8am yesterday morning, whilst United fans began to get their heads around seeing one of their legends in the colours of their rivals, Manchester City and its supporters were getting ready to welcome the 36-year-old they once detested, with open arms.

According to The Athletic, Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes had convinced Pep Guardiola and the Manchester City suits that they had their man. The reassurances came as the player landed in Lisbon to prepare for his flight back to the UK and in turn the Premier League where we grew into a man and the legend that we all know so well during a six year spell under his father figure Sir Alex Ferguson.

Of course, rumours - and there have been many - that it was actually City that performed a u-turn on the potential deal are unconfirmed. The more credible are saying that Mendes has done City like a kipper, and the plan was always for the player to return to Manchester United. Its like something off WWE, the storyline, the saga. You can't help but be taken in by it.

For City fans, its now a case of what might of been. For United, having seen their rivals improve their attacks ahead of an assault for what looks like an open title race this season, they now have their own spearhead and maybe the best of the lot. Even at his tender age, Ronaldo scored six more goals in Serie A than Romelu Lukaku last season.

Whilst it is thought that Sir Alex himself had a major role in bringing Ronaldo home, Bruno Fernandes and even Rio Ferdinand were also on his case. Mendes, who represents a monopoly of players across the continent, will not be welcome doing business at Eastlands any time soon.

He is thought to have met with Manchester City representatives on Tuesday and even on Friday morning had told teammates at Juventus he would be wearing blue in the Premier League. Ferguson and Manchester United, had made their move on Thursday night. And with that, new memories can be made at Old Trafford.
