Lionel Messi once again showed why he is one of the best free-kick takers on Sunday when he scored from one against Real Betis.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner smashed home a 20-yard free-kick to open the scoring for Barcelona, with Pau López having little hope of stopping the peach of a strike.

Well, it looks like the 31-year-old Argentine ace has a brilliant track record from free-kicks compared to the likes of Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos.

According to ESPN's Alexis (AKA 'MisterChip' on Twitter), Messi tops the list when it comes to converting those free-kicks into goals.

The Barcelona captain has 28 free-kick goals from 330 attempts, giving him an 8.5 per cent conversion ratio.

Ronaldinho is the closest to Messi, having scored 15 free-kicks from 205 attempts (7.3 per cent).

Meanwhile, Ronaldo came third with 19 free-kick goals from 310 attempts (6.1 per cent), while Carlos had 16 free-kick goals to his name from 382 attempts (4.2 per cent).

Messi put on a magnificent performance in Barça's 4-1 victory over Betis, bagging himself a hat-trick in style when he chipped López inside of the box.

It's safe to say that the 24-year-old Spanish shot-stopper was blown away by the Argentina captain's goal, not to mention that Béticos fans gave Messi a standing ovation for his performance.

Will anyone catch up to Messi in the race for the European Golden Shoe?
