Jesse Lingard Has Only Contributed To Premier League Goals One Month In The Past 12

The Manchester United midfielder couldn't help his team win against Wolves on Monday night and he's not contributed at all this year.

Jesse Lingard had a frustrating night for Manchester United against Wolves on Monday and it continued his poor record, not contributing a goal for the entirety of 2019 and barely doing so in 12 month of Premier League football.

The biggest criticism of United's transfers in the summer was the failure to add a creative midfielder to the squad and on Monday night Lingard played in the 'number 10' role until he was replaced by Juan Mata.

Lingard's failure to assist or score a goal in his 81 minutes on the pitch meant that he continued a run of not doing so in the league this year and since May 2018 he has only done so in one month of league football, December 2018.

December last year was the month in which Jose Mourinho was sacked and replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, after a 3-1 loss to Liverpool, and only two of Lingard's contributions have come in that time.

The 26-year-old scored twice in Solskjaer's first game, a 5-1 win over Cardiff City, and got an assist against Huddersfield Town, in a 3-1 win.

Lingard scored twice in December before Mourinho's departure, the last goal of the 'Special One's' tenure against Liverpool and against Arsenal - which was his first contribution to the team since an assist for Chris Smalling in a 2-0 win at Bournemouth in April 2018.

Playing as the most attacking of United's midfielders, alongside Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, the former Birmingham City loanee would have been expected to contribute more,

Whilst that hasn't always been his position the Warrington born player has always played in advanced roles for United and should have done more.

The United youth product came under a lot of criticism after he posted a video on social media on his holiday, messing about with friends in their apartment.

Whilst that criticism went too far the midfielder won't be able to keep the critics away for too much longer unless he ends his poor run without a goal or assist.
