Jack Grealish Breaks Premier League With Nine Games Left Of The Season

The Aston Villa captain is a marked man and he could smash the record by the time the season finishes at the end of July.

Jack Grealish incredibly broke the record for the most fouled player in a Premier League season, with nearly nine games of the season left for the Aston Villa midfielder.

It took just minutes of Villa's game on Sunday for Grealish to be fouled for the first time, bringing up the 128th time this season that the Villa captain had been stopped illegally by an opposition player.

In fact it's such a familiar feeling for the 24-year-old that he's become the most fouled played in a single Premier League season since records began.

The foul took place early in the first half against Chelsea, leaving over eight and a half more games for the midfielder to be fouled more times.

Certainly the replies suggest that fans are split whether or not the stat proves that the Villa captain is a great player, if it's a sign he's a diver or if it suggests he should get rid of the ball quicker.

That's why stats can prove pretty much anything you want but it's not difficult to see that the Englishman is the most important player for Dean Smith's side's chances of survival.

With seven goals and six assists in the league, he leads the way on both stats for the west Midlands' club, who are still stuck in the relegation zone.

His impressive form had led for calls for him to be included in the England squad for the Euros, which have since been delayed until next season.

The Villa captain has also been linked with a move away from the club, especially if they're relegated, with Manchester United reportedly interested in the midfielder, who can play in either the number eight or number 10 role, as well as out wide on the left.
