Fan's Twitter Thread 'Debunks' Lionel Messi's 2019/20 Season Stats

The Barcelona star became the first player in La Liga history to score 20 goals & assist 20 goals in a season but it wasn't that impressive.

Most people think that Lionel Messi still had a great season despite Barcelona's failures in La Liga and the Champions League, but one fan has proved everyone wrong with a great Twitter thread.

Messi now wants to leave Barca after becoming disillusioned with life at the Nou Camp, with Manchester City the most likely destination for the 33-year-old.

Despite his record breaking season, 20 goals and 20 assists in the same La Liga season, the Catalan giants weren't able to win any silverware and that might be because Messi's stats aren't as good as first thought, that's according to one fan's deep dive into what those stats meant.

If City are to sign Messi, or anyone else for that matter, they'll have to spend big. Even if he's able to get his contract cancelled then his wages are reportedly at the 500,000 euros-a-week mark.

However his stats of scoring goals against the bottom half sides might not be enough to put Pep Guardiola off. City lost to both Norwich City and Southampton last season and drew with Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, as they finished 18 points behind Liverpool.

It remains to be seen if Guardiola is put off by a Twitter thread but it seems quite unlikely. Whether or not City do sign the six time Ballon d'Or winner or not will come down to other factors.
