After 679 days as a Real Madrid player, Martin Odegaard finally made his first start for Los Blancos, during last night's 6-1 Copa Del Rey victory over Cultural Leonesa.

The Norwegian arrived at the Bernabeu almost two years ago to global headlines, having been heavily linked with several of Europe's top clubs. Since then, the former Strømsgodset youngster's every move has been put under intense scrutiny as he struggled settling in Spain, finding difficulty with the language barrier and training with the first team while playing for the Castilla team.

However, despite his initial teething problems, Odegaard has remained in the Spanish capital, and made up for lost time by dazzling on his first start for 'Los Blancos', albeit against a Segunda Division outfit in Leonesa.

The 17-year-old had of course appeared for Real last May, when he replaced Cristiano Ronaldo from the substitute's bench during an end of season 7-3 romp over Getafe. If he can continue his level of performance from last night, we should be expecting to see a lot more of the Norwegian wonderkid in the coming months.
