Will Loris Karius be able to recover from Saturday night's Champions League howlers against Real Madrid? The man who could replace him for Liverpool has a lot of sympathy for the Reds goalkeeper.

Since Karius joined Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool there has been questions about him, he slipped below Simon Mignolet but then overtook the more experienced keeper to be the number one at Anfield.

Whilst the questions have never really gone away he has slowly but surely improved at Anfield, going about his business in an effective and quiet manner in the second half of the season, that was until he two major mistakes against Real.

Long before Karius helped Real to win their third Champions League in a row there had been rumours that Liverpool would spend big money to upgrade to Roma's Alisson and of course after Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema both scored following the German's mess ups those rumours are back.

The Brazilian shot stopper has come to the defence of his fellow goalkeeper's union member. Speaking to Gazeta Esportiva he said:

"I got very sad. We, goalkeepers, when we see a mistake of another goalkeeper, we end up feeling as if they were us. It's very sad to see this, but he needs to put his head up. It is part of football and life must go on.

"He has to be proud to have played in a Champions League final. Of course it's not what he expected, but it's part of football.

"We are also subject to errors. We need to work hard not to let this happen to us."

Liverpool added Fabinho to their team on Monday night whilst Naby Keita is also confirmed to be joining Klopp's side on July 1st after the transfer was agreed in September last year.

They have long been linked with a move for Alisson but he would likely cost them around £60 million to prise him away from Roma though after Karius' mistakes Klopp might think it's worth it.

At 0-0 the German keeper threw the ball at Karim Benzema who stuck out his foot and the ball rolled in after Gareth Bale made it 2-1 with his worldie the Welshman's second came after Karius failed to catch or punch the ball and it went into the net.
