There's an old wives tale that says that English football fans are always happy to see other English teams do well in Europe. We don't think Arsenal fans will be too happy to find out Petr Cech accidentally helped Christian Eriksen score against Juventus.

Of course the cliche that all English football fans want to see other sides do well in the Champions League and Europa League rather falls down when it comes to rivals but there would have been many fans who don't care about Spurs wanting to see them lose on Tuesday night.

After nine minutes it looked like those fans were going to get their way with Gonzalo Higuain putting the Old Lady 2-0 up against Spurs inside 10 minutes with a goal following a free kick and a second from the spot.

Take a look at our two footer compilation:

However Spurs were the better team and fought back before half time through Harry Kane. Higuain then missed a chance from the spot to make it 3-1 before Christian Eriksen's free kick in the second half made it 2-2.

Speaking after the match to the Spurs website, via Metro, the Dane explained how Petr Cech had actually helped him score, saying:

"I had one at the weekend against Cech where I should have gone the keeper's side and he read it. Luckily today he went opposite.

"But I had a feeling, and I saw the wall move, and I think I saw him take a step as well Buffon, and luckily I changed my mind and went for the other corner and it went in."

Hugo Lloris also agreed that Cech had helped, adding: "He almost scored against Arsenal but Petr Cech made a fantastic save. But maybe thanks to this free-kick he changed the side and he kicked in the goalkeeper's side and it worked well today!

"Thanks to him, because the team made a lot of effort to be back in the game and we need out individual players to make the difference at some key moments and it was the case today."

And just in case you still weren't convinced even Harry Kane added to the idea that Eriksen's goal was all down to the North London derby miss, "Massive moment. He had a good one against Arsenal, where Cech made the save, and obviously he went the keeper's side this time and managed to score."

So I guess Spurs fans should be sending their Valentine's cards to Petr Cech.
