Pep Guardiola Claims That Manchester United Are Title Contenders

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are unbeaten in eight Premier League games since he took over but surely they can't catch Liverpool.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United might be on a roll right now but the chances of them winning the Premier League still seem pretty remote, although not according to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

Last season the Premier League was left in no doubt as to who the best team in the league was, with Manchester City winning the league by 19 points from Manchester United with a record number of points.

This season United would have been hoping that they could push City closer and technically they have, after all they are only 11 points behind their local rivals this time.

That's still a pretty long way back, especially as Liverpool are a further three points ahead, but that has come down a lot in recent weeks thanks to eight games undefeated since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as manager.

Seeing as they've come from so far back recently and are still two points off the top four most fans of the Red Devils would take a Champions League place for next season.

Pep Guardiola though reckons that United are title contenders. Talking on Tuesday ahead of his side's game against Everton on Wednesday, the former Barcelona manager said:

"I never said Tottenham was not there, nor Chelsea. I never put out all five-six teams, and United is making this run of victories every single week, they'll be there to fight for the Premier League.

"If Chelsea is able to do games in a row, games in row, they'll be contenders too to win the Premier League, so everybody is there. The gap is not too big.

"With 39 points to play for, when you are nine, ten points behind, it's not too much. Seeing what's happening right now in the Premier League, everybody is ready to take points."

Liverpool and City remain the two front runners, with Spurs not too far behind, and they've both recently dropped points when they weren't expected to.

However United also dropped points against Burnley and in their current situation they'd need to win every game left this season and hope that Liverpool lose four times, City and Spurs lose three times and Chelsea lose twice.

City looked likely to go seven points behind Liverpool last Wednesday but after the Reds drew with Leicester and West Ham in a week things have changed and the gap is down to three points.

Guardiola's side could win the league, Liverpool too and even Spurs but you can rule out United, can't you?
