European football heavyweights Real Madrid have knocked Manchester United from the top earners list with the Premier League side dropping to third behind two La Liga heavyweights.

The Reds slipped down to third behind Madrid La Liga rivals Barcelona, who boasted a healthy 690.4 million revenue.

Now the world's wealthiest club, Real Madrid earnt the financial title with 750.9 million in earnings. They return to the top spot for the first time since 2014/5.

But it was by no means a tight year for the Premier League's biggest earners. Their revenue dipped slightly to 666 million; last year they topped the table at 676.3million.

Deloitte's Football Money League 2019 shows that the Premier League is still doing pretty well with Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs all in the top 10.

Rob Wilson, a football finance expert at Sheffield Hallam University, explained the findings.

"This was predictable mainly due to the timing of commercial and sponsorship renewals. The big ticket-items; shirt manufacturing and shirt sponsorship being renewed and improving the overall position of a number of clubs," he said, as per the Mirror Online.

"MUFC don't go back to the negotiating table for a while yet. Expect them to stay off the top spot for a good few years yet, particularly with a possible reduction in matchday revenue if they miss out on qualification to the Champions League."

United are one of six Premier League club in the top 10. Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich make-up the other foreign teams with Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs completing the list.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will be pleased to see his ownership take the club in the top 20 with earnings of over 201 million.

For fans and manager Rafa Benitez, this may come as no surprise considering Ashley's austere transfer policy in recent years. The Sports Direct boss allegedly refused to give any budget to Benitez in the summer.
